In 1976, Bianneng (1906-1999, born in Leshan), the abbot of Youwu Temple, raised funds to build a three-span stone arch covered bridge with two piers across the diversion channel between the Giant Stone-Buddha Scenic Spot and Youwu Temple in Leshan. At that time, some people advocated him to charge for bridge tolls. However, Master Bianneng said, "The Buddha has his own pledges. One who raises funds from all living beings should return benefits to them all. Just let this bridge stand for those who are willing to cross." Therefore, the bridge is free of charge from then on.
